This stool was made to be part of the launch of our tension collection, which is inspired by the strength and beauty of traditional Japanese timber framing connections. With only a few taps of a small hammer the wedge mortises and tenon joints can be disassembled to be packed flat in minutes.
The real trick was finding a way to attach the top without using any conventional fasteners. The chevron on the underside of the seat is overhung and slides into a grove hidden on one of the interior corners of the seat frame. A push wedge secures the top in place.
